there's eastern michigan and there's western michigan. eastern michigan is much more urban and the attitudes are more along the lines of ban everything. and i grew up in a town in detroit in which a lot of teens were being killed before they reached their 16th birthday. that's the impetus behind banning everything. the rest of the state is more rural. there's a lot of hunters and people who are pro-gun and it's very conservative. but i will tell you this. all 21 superintendents in my county since signed a letter asking the governor not to approve a law that would have allowed guns in schools amongst other places. it's not as extreme as you would think. so all that to say, i think people in michigan on both sides of the state are open and willing and wanting some sort of restrictions so we don't see what happened in newtown, aurora, arizona, some of the other mass shootings that we have seen this year happen in 2013. >> okay, so will, you're from texas. you know what everybody thinks about texas. ain't going to be argument there is because

a lot of small family farms, farms in northern michigan wiped out. in my home state late freezes in the spring caused cherry producers to lose practically their entire crop right off the bat. it warmed up, the buds came out, then they had a deep freeze; killed everything. our growers produce 75% of the u.s. supply of cherries. that's around 270 million pounds. and the cherry producers experienced 98% loss. now in our amendment, in the disaster bill and in the farm bill, we give them some help because they spent the rest of the crop year this year having to pay to maintain the orchards and the frees, eating the costs and hoping the trees will bounce back next year and produce a crop. so they have all the costs of maintaining everything but no revenue coming in. cherry producers were also forced to fight spreading diseases like cherry leaf spot and bacterial tinker, making the trees even more costly to maintain and at risk of loss. they didn't just lose their crop this year. they had to invest a lot of money to save their orchards without having any do

they they are exempt in michigan. you lack sort of that piece of the messaging strategy, so what are you going to do specifically in michigan? do you have, you know, already phone banks going? are you guys going -- what is your strategic plan beyond just messaging to working people? >> i think it's that we have to organize at a level and depth we've never done before. there's a million people that are parts of unions in michigan. we're going to reach out to every one of them. we're doing a training today. we're going to do one-on-one conversations like we do in electoral activity to get every member to resign a card both for political action and for union membership, and make sure we register people to vote. we think the reason we won in ohio is baugh because bargaining matters for building the mrilgdz class, and it's the questions in michigan and in wisconsin were about candidates and issues, and so that's we think we need to expand this fight beyond simply electoral strategy and include private sector organizing, co
